Melissa and the kiddos came over...6/5/09

Grandpa and I went grocery shopping today. I had to get home afterwards because Melissa had called and she and the kiddos were coming over while someone looked at their house. They were at my house when I got home, playing in the basement. They loved the new washer and dryer Aunt Bippi picked up for me. We ate lunch downstairs and had ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Hailey said she didn't like ice cream sandwiches, but when we talked her into trying it, she loved it. We went outside after lunch and the kids played on the swings, slide, rode bikes and cars. My peonies are out now so they look beautiful and smell beautiful too. They remind me so much of grandma, and Grandma Daisy. Amazing how a flower can bring so many good memories. The kids were all so good. It was fun watching them play.
Kenzie swam again today when she got here. Papa sat outside with her while she swam and I made dinner. I took grandpa his dinner and he couldn't wait to show me the picture he had on his camera. He said he was in the kitchen and heard a knock on the sliding glass door in the dining room. He hollered Penny, Penny, but when I didn't answer, he decided he'd better go see who was knocking. He went to the door and there was a big Tom Turkey pecking at his glass on the door. Grandpa took a picture. I will get it tomorrow and post it. It was so big. It didn't get scared and run away even when Grandpa went up to the door. He finally opened the door and it took off running. Watered the garden tonight.

Jack fell asleep when he was swinging. It was so cute to watch him.

6/4/09 Dad had lots of turkeys ...

This morning, I headed over to grandpa's to do his laundry and hang it outside. He wanted me to do his bedding too so I had three nice loads. As I was hanging it out, I saw the baby fawn out back. It was so cute. Grandpa has been telling me about it for about a week, but this is my first time to see it. The first time he saw it,
he was so excited. He told me he had never seen anything like it in his 92 years. He said it was smaller than my little dog, Mocha. Even when he lived up north in the woods, he never saw one this small. I left for home to mow the grass. I got it half done along with the weed wacking, and went back to dad's. The turkeys were there in full force. Three or four toms plus some hens. I videoed them and waited, but I couldn't wait forever so I went out and took his bedding down off the line. They walked past the garden, but didn't go any farther. They watched me but didn't take off. I was surprised. I took the rest of the clothes off the line and they walked farther back towards the end of grandpa's property, but still stayed there.
I came home and finished the lawn. Kenzie got here and wanted to go swimming. She stayed in for about 15 minutes, then was cold and wanted to take a hot shower. I made dinner and went back to grandpa's to take food to him. There were the turkeys again, right up by his bird feeder and window again. He had his camera ready. This morning when he tried to get a picture, the battery was dead. I showed him how to charge the camera so he would be ready the next time they came. When I got home, Bill, Kenzie and I ate and then Kenzie studied for her exam in S.S. and I quizzed her. We took a break and we made ice cream cones. Tomorrow is her last exam.
I got home today and their was a message so I listened. All I could hear was someone crying. I knew it was Max or Hailey, so I called Melissa as I was a little worried. Hailey had gotten stung by a bee. Poor little girl. I felt so bad for her. She was doing better by the time I talked to her, but it was itching her.

6/3/09

Today I first checked blogs, then went to my breakfast group. After that I headed to the Dollar Store, then to grandpa's. I spent time with grandpa, then left to come home and let Mocha out before going to have lunch with Aunt Vikki. Grandpa told me to tell Aunt Vikki hi, which was very sweet. It made her happy and me too. We had a good lunch and wonderful time sharing. I always enjoy our visits. She gave me some very cute pictures of Ava. We are making plans to go with her and Uncle Terry to meet Ava and then go out to dinner sometime this summer. She sent gifts for Jacob and Adam's birthdays. She made the gift bags and they are so cute. She always is so talented and creative. I went back to grandpa's and while I was there, 3Tom turkeys came right up to his bird feeder. It was really neat because we had the window open with no screen. What a view. He is trying to talk me into hunting with him in the fall. I don't think I could ever have the heart to shoot one though. He wants Jared to take up turkey hunting also. Melissa called and said Hailey's school fun fair was today. Bill and I went and it was so nice. So many nice games and so fun to watch Hailey and Max play them. Jack was so good. We ate hot dogs and nachos and the very best donuts ever. The school made them. I got home and watered the garden while dad did paperwork for his job.

6/2/09 Grandpa caught a cat...

Grandpa caught a cat last night in his trap so he called me this morning and said we get to go out to breakfast. When he catches a cat, we stop at the restaurant that is near the humaine Society and take turns treating each other for breakfast. His hip was feeling lots better so he was using a cane instead of the walker. We both had eggs, potatoes, and bacon for me/sausage for grandpa. We got back to his house and I had to call on some bills he got that were mixed up. Then I left and went to
a store and got a duffle bag on wheels for me to take on my retreats. Kenzie is going to use it on her missionary trip. I really like it. It is a great size with lots of compartments on the outside and plenty of room on the inside. Went to
get my pumpkin plants after that and came home to plant them and do some hoeing around my flowers. Looks like the woodchuck that I found out is also a groundhog by reading the encyclopedia today, is eating some of my plants....squash plants of all things. I went around the corner of the woodpile and there he was. I screamed and he went running. Worked on my blog to catch up too. Vikki picked up Kenzie and then called dad to meet her and go to Misty's new house. Dad wanted me to meet him there too so I took grandpa his supper and met them. Misty's house is really cute, but the wiring dad was working on for the plugs was old and brittle. I studied math with Kenzie for her exam while they worked on it. Dad and I went out to eat afterwards. I stopped at grandpa's on my way home to visit with him more and he gave me some wire cages to put around my plants.

Jacob and Adam spent the day with Nana..6/1/09

I went to check on grandpa and see how he was doing with his sore hip. He was a little tiny bit better today. After I left there I paid a couple of bills and headed for home. Kimmy was already there with the boys. They were in the basement and hid under the ping pong table on me. They made a noise and I found them. Then I got my big hugs. Kimmy left and the boys and I spent more time playing in the basement. We stopped to have lunch and then watched a Bob the Builder video. We played more in the basement and then decided to get the moon sand out. They love playing with that. I noticed it was getting time for Kenzie to get off the bus so I asked them if they wanted to go outside. They said yes and got their shoes right away. Jacob can put his own shoes on now. He can also hop on one foot. When he showed me how he did it and I was so impressed, Adam had to show me how he does it too. He was so cute holding on to the cupboard and trying to copy Jacob. He wants to do everything his big brother does now. Too cute for words! We went outside and they wanted to jump over the crack in the driveway. Then when we saw the bus way down the road, they wanted to hide on Kenzie. They jumped out when the saw her and chased her. Finally when they caught her they gave her lots of hugs.
Kimmy got home and then shortly after Bill did. We got ready and rode the motorcycle to our CMA meeting. It was a nice ride and a nice get together. We went for ice cream afterwards and that was a real treat. We only made one ice cream stop on our trip. Hard to believe.

The boys were showing me how they could jump over the crack in the driveway.

Jacob and Adam were really excited while they were waiting for Kenzie's school bus. They wanted to hide on her.

When Kenzie got off the bus, they were so happy and excited..they chased her all over and caught her and gave her lots of hugs.

The boys always like playing in Nana's basement. Vikki brought me some nice new toys, so they were excited to have new things to play with.
I had to laugh when I saw the firetruck in the dryer, when the boys were doing laundry.

Jacob just put gas in his vehicle and is hanging the hose up.

Celebrated Jacob's 4th birthday today 5/27/09

The day after we got back from our trip to Washington DC, Kimmy and Jared had us over for Jacob's birthday celebration. We had yummy food and cake plus ice cream, of course. The boys were fun to watch. Jacob was very excited about his birthday and being four years old. Grandpa enjoyed himself. When I got to his house, he had his card box out and had a birthday card all picked out. He asked me if it was ok. It said grandson on it so I told him it was perfect. I asked if he wanted me to write a check (I always write the grandkids birthday checks for him) and he said "certainly." "He's got to have a check. He's a wonderful boy, just a wonderful boy." He had a big smile on his face while he was saying it. When I babysat Jacob when he was little, he was grandpa's buddy. They spent lots of time together while I took mom to get her blood drawn and other appointments. They have a special bond because of spending that precious time together and Jacob being such a good boy.

Great job on the rocket cake, Kimmy. I love how it looked when the candles were lit. It looked ready for take off. It took of to our tummies. Yummy!
