On our way out of Mt. Rushmore there were these beautiful rocks that sparkled in the sun.  Max loved climbing on them

Such a fun place

The water slide went outside and was super dark when out there
Read the Bible with Max which we are doing every day.  We left at 9 a.m. and drove 40 minutes to Mt. Rushmore.  Ate at a restaurant called Peggy’s there. We had a great breakfast.  We went to Mt. Rushmore after that.  It was beautiful and more than met my expectations.  I have wanted to go there since I was little.  Max loved it there too.  A man dressed like Theodore Roosevelt gave a talk about the National Parks, the government and why the presidents on Mt. Rushmore were chosen. He was very talented and very interesting.
Max and Papa had hot fudge sundaes and I had a mint chocolate chip waffle cone in the store at Mt. Rushmore.  They were big and delicious. We walked through the gift shop and I got a pair of earrings with granite from Mt. Rushmore in them.  Took pictures of Max climbing the rocks there and then left.
We went to Rushmore Cave after that and took a tour of the cave. It was 58 degrees in the cave. It’s 3,652.6 feet long. He told us there were Over 400 steps. My fit bit said I did 23 flights of stairs.  Wow! It took us an hour and some narrow spots with lots of steep steps. It tired us out.  Even Max thought it was hard to breathe sometimes. We all were glad we did it.  Max and Papa were going to go down the mountain roller coaster, but they closed it because of lightning.  We drove to the town of Wall and went through Wall Drugs. It was huge and had lots of shops.  We drove to Mitchell, S.D.  Went to Culver’s to eat.  Brought it back to our room to eat, so we could hurry and swim before the pool closed.  Stayed at a Comfort Inn with an amazing water slide that went outside and then back in the building. I loved going down on a tube and not going under water all the way.  So much fun.  Bill went down 3 times and I went down six times.  Max went the entire 40 minutes we had to swim.  Bill fell off his tube the first two times, but did great the third time. Great day! Did the laundry before going to bed. Someone left a little box of tide on the washer they didn’t use.  It was only a dollar to wash the clothes and a dollar to dry them. Still had time on the dryer when the were all dry.  Nice to have laundry done!

Bill and I ate breakfast while Max slept in.  Bill left for his convention and I went back to our room to wake Max up at 8:30, so he could have time to eat.  Max and I packed our stuff up and hung out at our hotel until noon.  Bill came and we went to lunch at Max’s favorite, Taco Bell.  Dropped Bill off at his meeting and went to the zoo to hang out!  The bear was out this time and came real close to where we were.  It was fun watching him cool off in the water. The tiger was close today too.  Max was very happy and so was I.  We picked Bill up at 2:30 and headed to S. Dakota. Saw a lot of antelope on our drive.  Went through a corner of Wyoming.  Went for a ride though Sturgis when we were in South Dakota.  Talked to Melissa and Bruce while we were there. Stayed at the Grand Gateway Hotel in Ridge City.  It had a great water slide and pool. Max was so happy when he saw it.  We ate at the Perkins Restaurant that was connected to our hotel.  We all went swimming, but only Max and Papa went down the slide.  We talked with a mom and her son who was in his 20’s in the hot tub.  They were Indians.  We asked if they believed in Jesus and they told us yes and told us about when he got baptized.  They were very nice.  Max cut his toe on a rough spot out in the pool area. Max calls or FaceTimes his mom and dad every day.  He loves telling them about his day.  We enjoy talking to them too and seeing them on FaceTime.  Talk to Vikki each day too and lots of FaceTimes.  Kimmy is super busy after getting home from Copper Harbor.  Saw her on FaceTime once and talked, but we have mostly been able just to text.  I sure do miss my family!  Counting down days till I see them.
