Read the Bible with Max which we are doing every day. We left at 9 a.m. and drove 40 minutes to Mt. Rushmore. Ate at a restaurant called Peggy’s there. We had a great breakfast. We went to Mt. Rushmore after that. It was beautiful and more than met my expectations. I have wanted to go there since I was little. Max loved it there too. A man dressed like Theodore Roosevelt gave a talk about the National Parks, the government and why the presidents on Mt. Rushmore were chosen. He was very talented and very interesting.
Max and Papa had hot fudge sundaes and I had a mint chocolate chip waffle cone in the store at Mt. Rushmore. They were big and delicious. We walked through the gift shop and I got a pair of earrings with granite from Mt. Rushmore in them. Took pictures of Max climbing the rocks there and then left.
We went to Rushmore Cave after that and took a tour of the cave. It was 58 degrees in the cave. It’s 3,652.6 feet long. He told us there were Over 400 steps. My fit bit said I did 23 flights of stairs. Wow! It took us an hour and some narrow spots with lots of steep steps. It tired us out. Even Max thought it was hard to breathe sometimes. We all were glad we did it. Max and Papa were going to go down the mountain roller coaster, but they closed it because of lightning. We drove to the town of Wall and went through Wall Drugs. It was huge and had lots of shops. We drove to Mitchell, S.D. Went to Culver’s to eat. Brought it back to our room to eat, so we could hurry and swim before the pool closed. Stayed at a Comfort Inn with an amazing water slide that went outside and then back in the building. I loved going down on a tube and not going under water all the way. So much fun. Bill went down 3 times and I went down six times. Max went the entire 40 minutes we had to swim. Bill fell off his tube the first two times, but did great the third time. Great day! Did the laundry before going to bed. Someone left a little box of tide on the washer they didn’t use. It was only a dollar to wash the clothes and a dollar to dry them. Still had time on the dryer when the were all dry. Nice to have laundry done!
